Haunted Inns in Kennebunk, Maine

Our first inn fits right in with Kennebunk because it is called Kennebunk Inn. If you want an inn that will leave you wondering if you are being watched through the mirror, then this inn will be just right for you! Let's get into the haunting! It was first built as a private home for Phinease Cole in 1799 and then turned into what it was formerly known as "The Tavern" in 1928 by Mr. and Mrs. George Baitler. It has a long history that includes it being a tavern, stagecoach stop and even a jail! Local staff and guests say that glasses will sometimes slide across the counters without reason. Multiple reports of phantom footsteps echoing upstairs are often heard these can lead back to the belief that the clerk and former owner remain behind and are still tending to their duties long after they have left this earth. There is one particular spirt that still resides there who was known as Silas Perkins who was a former nightwatchmen and author who died in his 80's from a heart attack at the inn itself. It is said that his spirt has never left. However, it has been said that his activities are more mischievous than anything else especially because he plays pranks on those he doesn't like. Two of his most famous activities are picking up three mugs and smacking the bartender on the back of the head. The other was in the room which is most known for many of the activities happening at the inn which is room 17. While a housekeeper was cleaning the room she unplugged the TV and a moment later the TV turned back on by itself!! 

The next inn is named the James Fairfield House. It was built by Captain James Fairfield in 1813. James and his wife lived in the house for 5 years until James died of pneumonia. The haunts seemed to have started in 1991 when the inn went under some renovations. During the renovations Fairfield himself could be seen floating in the area of the basement. After the renovations numerous guests at this now bed and breakfast have reported seeing the captain and others have said that they have sensed his presence in various rooms and areas of the bed and breakfast. This inn became famous for it's hauntings in 2002 when Frances Kerman wrote about her stay here when it was known as "Tides Inn-by-the-Sea you can read about it in "Ghostly Encounters" It is said that the most haunted room here is room 25. 

The next inn that we have for you if you want a not so peaceful night and rather feel like you are being watched is going to be the Nathaniel Lord Mansion. It was built in 1812 by Captain Nathanial Lord. Guests often report that they see a woman dressed in Victorian clothing watching them in the Lincoln bedroom and many people believe that this maybe the captains wife. She has also been seen wondering the spiral staircase and the halls watching over guests who stay here.
